Brand New “Daisy” Samples Bertrand Brown

daisy

The new album “Daisy” by the band Brand New starts off with an amazing sample on the first track “Vices.” It’s from the gospel hymn “On Life’s Highway” by Bertrand Brown but unfortunately this song is impossible to find on its own. The song is interrupted by the actual album which is interesting in its own right, but then concluded at the end of “Daisy.” I decided to cut up the brand new album and re-edit the song together. Here you go:

Thermals @ FYF Fest 09

Fyf Fest 09 was one of the largest hipster picnics I’ve ever been to. I almost got crushed during lightning bolt’s brutal set, inhaled a jar full of dust while watching the Thermals and feared for everyone’s life during F*cked Up’s set in which “Pink Eyes” threatened to climb the 100 foot tall scaffolding and plunge all 300 pounds of his mass into the audience. Pictures are up here:

Michael Jackson

CAPTAIN EO!

CAPTAIN EO!

As a kid I really liked Michael Jackson. One time I put on a Michael Jackson mask, faux leather red jacket and white glove to perform “Smooth Criminal” in front of my entire Summer camp talent show.  It’s too bad that he got a bit strange in his later life because I’ll always remember the Michael Jackson of the 1980’s. Thriller reminds me of my old house on Esther avenue in Los Angeles where I grew up from ages 2-12.  It was the first cassette I ever owned and I still remember the day I went to the Century City mall to buy it.  I listened to it so much that the tape snapped and I had to save another ten dollars in order to return to the music store and purchase a replacement cassette. In the end I think I bought Thriller three times and Bad at least twice.  To commemorate the passing of MJ we are having an event tomorrow night at the Odessa Bar in the East Village. Here is the facebook invite : Michael Jackson Night at Odessa

Sunday night in the BK

Last night I went with Anastasia, TJ and Sophie to go see Ida Maria at this awesome venue in Brooklyn called the Bell House. The concert was amazing:

Some of us barely made it to 151 after a subway ride full of debauchery and water sports see mess below:

Morrissey Doesn’t Care about your Birthday!

morrissey-with-birthday-c-002My favorite new Morrissey song off “Year’s of Refusal” is called “It’s not your birthday anymore” and in it Morrissey soothingly explains the following:

It’s not your birthday anymore
there’s no need to be kind to you
and the will to see you smile and belong has now gone
It’s not your birthday anymore
did you really think we meant
all those syrupy, sentimental things
that we said?”

Morrissey makes some valid points in this song. If it’s not your birthday anymore I basically no longer have to be nice to you. Maybe next year I will be nice again for a day but as for now I’m going to throw your stupid gifts on the floor and light them on fire.
