Gabriel Barcia-Colombo is an interactive video artist based out of New York City. He is particularly interested in looking at new ways of implementing video as a medium for creating engaging interactive physical sculpture. His most recent videowork focuses on the concept of collecting human beings as scientific specimens, a combination of curiosity cabinets, sleight-of-hand shows, laboratory practices and theories of human taxonomies. He received his Masters Degree in New Media Arts from New York University and his B.A. in film production from the University of Southern California. He creates video installations, animation and musical typewriters all with a slightly sinister comic edge. In the past year, his work was featured in group shows from Los Angeles to New York and Austin Texas. His piece "Animalia Chordata" won honorable mention at The Prix Ars Electronica festival in Linz Austria and third place in interactive art at Siggraph 2007. His film "Dada (A Pseudomentary)" won the Slamdance Anarchy film festival. you can reach Gabriel at gabebc@gmail.com |
